AND THE WINNERS ARE....i had an INCREDEBLY hard time deciding the placings, all of my entries were just too damn amazing. no one entered any crappy photos, which made my job of judging even harder! the top three photographs are so incredebly close that it came down to two main things that i judged on.
1). the composition of the photograph
2). how well the photograph fit the theme
now, the moment you have all been waiting for *drum roll*
FIRST PLACE

the first thing that really struck me about this photograph was the composition of it. the consistent green colour in the background and the way that xflyinghigh used her depth of field really focused the viewer in on the horses butt. the words written on the horses butt brought a touch of hilarity to the photo, and also completed this shot. im so used to seeing "wash me" written on a car, that when its on a horse, it is not only an original idea, but a funny one as well!

i think that this was a great photo to choose to put in black and white. the monochrome-ness evokes a feeling of darkness and despair, which is also the same thing that her title 'battlefield' evokes in people. the softer background is fantastic, thus bringing the attention to the horses ass. the contrast between the lighter dorsal stripe and the darker coat really keep the view staring at this shot, because usually most horses have a darker dorsal stripe on a lighter coat, so since this is an unusual colour match, it has almost a fascinating property to it.

THIRD PLACE

this horse is the picture of elegance. the braided tail with the loop at the end, the butt that has most definatly had showsheen sprayed on it, and the way the horse is holding his tail a litttle big elevated. i dont know if this shot could get any more elegant. the only thing that throws me a bit is the other end of the dressage areana in the background. because its out of the main focus of the picture, and because it white and on the left there is a larger square of grey, it is a bit distracting. i covered up the top half of the photo, and it was stunning because you already have a great shot of the horses butt. all in all, i beleive that this is really fits the theme of the contest, and of the theme of its own picture. the top three winners were so close that it did get down to the composition of the photo.
